I read a lot of fanfic. I like fanfiction and sometimes it can be easier to read a fic than to actually find and watch/read a new piece of media especially when I just want to relax.
So I've read or at least skimmed more than a few over the years and sometimes it can be hard to find anything good, so than you go to mediocore, and then kinda crappy.
Weirdly, I've noticed a consistant constant thread of OOC-ness that pops up in all different fandoms by different authors in fanfics of all different quality. A lot of people have a tendency to flatten out the characterization of the heroes or main protaganist of whatever the fandom and oddly enough it's not just the ones who write fics without having read or seen the source material. They seem to have gone in to whatever the original material was with a bias of how a "hero" character acts and viewed everything the character does through that lens.
For an example from an actual fic, in a fantasy, urban fantasy, or even comic book setting if a character's job is Vampire Slayer/witch/superhero, just because a character doesn't act like Dexter Morgan (fictional serial killer) or Frank Castle (The Punisher) does not mean that they would let a truly monsterous-looking actively murderous bunch of demons who deeply wants to destroy humanity just go home after a fight so your favorite anti-hero or even villainous character can later say I told you so when the demon comes back with an army.
